Super Mario Bros. (Arcade, 1985)

"The original Super Mario Bros. is as exciting to me as when I first played it in a seaside arcade. It's a living bible of game control and level design, and it still thrills me that every block and every pipe could be hiding treasure - even empty spaces often hold unexpected secrets. (But if Mario had never been invented, I'd choose Advance Wars. Just so you know. )
